ZODIAC® - Optimus Packer

What is it ?

The Red Spider Optimus Packer is a high performance retrievable packer which can accommodate control line bypass. The packer is designed to be run in conjunction with the Optimus ATC (Annular Tubing Control) Valve and acts, not only as the main production packer, but can also be used as a means of achieving zonal isolation.

The device is deployed in conjunction with the tubing and provides an internal diameter which is consistent with mono-bore completion requirements. Depending on size the packer can accommodate bypass for several control lines so allowing hydraulically or electrically operated equipment such as the ATC or gauges to be run below.

The packer also incorporates design features such as an interlock mechanism to prevent premature setting while running into the well and large contact slips which result in distributed stress loading into the casing string when the packer is subjected to high axial loads.

When would I use it ?

The Optimus packer would typically be used in the following applications:

• Where a high performance production packer is required due to high completion loadings
• As a production packer in Intelligent Well completions
• As a zonal isolation packer in Intelligent Well completions
• Where permanent downhole gauges are required to be run below the packer
• Where the production packer requires to be recovered at a later date without milling
