ZODIAC® - Disconnect

What is it ?

The Red Spider ZODIAC Disconnect is primarily designed to be run as part of a completion which combines both an ESP and intelligent well flow control valves.

The Disconnect provides a wet disconnect / reconnect point so that the upper ESP completion can be disconnected from the lower intelligent well completion equipment which can then be retrieved on a separate run.

The Disconnect can accommodate communication for up to six hydraulic control lines and is designed to act as a reconnection point for ESP maintenance operations (where the lower completion is left in situ) or where the completion is initially to be deployed in multiple stages.

The Disconnect is primarily designed to provide a wet disconnect and reconnect point for pulling the upper completion from the well, but the design also allows for optional slips to be fitted in order to provide protection to the ESP from any tubing string movement.

In this configuration, the ESP is effectively anchored between the ESP production packer and the Disconnect, consequently isolating the pump from the effects of any stresses induced by tubing movement.

When would I use it ?

The Disconnect would typically be used in the following applications:

• Where a disconnect point is required between an ESP and flow control equipment therefore assisting retrieval of the completion
• Where a reconnect point is required therefore allowing work-over of an upper ESP completion whilst leaving the lower completion in situ
• Where the production tubing needs to be deployed in two independent runs
• When completion stresses that potentially can be transmitted through an ESP require to be isolated
