What is it ?
The TTRD (Through Tubing Rotary Drilling) Protection Sleeve (patent pending) was designed for use with through tubing rotary drilling techniques and is typically used to protect any downhole seal bores from damage due to rotating drill pipe within the tubing string. These seal bores could be located within downhole tubing mounted safety valves, safety valve nipples or xmas trees.
The Protection Sleeve is run on a dedicated running tool that is in effect an integral part of the drill string. The Protection Sleeve is dropped off and locked in place as the drill string is run through the safety valve, and is subsequently picked back up again upon retrieval of the drill string.
When would I use it ?
The device was developed specifically for use on TTRD operations but can be used in a number of other applications where the protection of seal bores is required:
- Through Tubing Rotary Drilling operations
- Electric and slickline operations
- Snubbing and coiled tubing operations
