Retrofit Tubing Hanger Plug

What is it ?

The Red Spider Retrofit Tubing Hanger Plug was designed to provide a testable barrier to allow the tree to be removed, the BOP’s installed and the well to be worked over.

As a consequence of a combination of corrosion and parted tubing it had proved impossible to set either a conventional tubing hanger plug or a retrievable bridge plug as a shallow set barrier in the well to allow workover. The Retrofit Tubing Hanger Plug was developed specifically to overcome these two issues allowing a barrier to be positioned and seal within the hanger.

The compact length of the device means that it does not interfere with the restricted tubing ID directly below as a consequence of the tubing parting and the use of a secondary no-go within the hanger profile allowed positive location of the device.

When would I use it ?

As with all retrofit solutions, the device is designed to fit a particular one off application. However, that is not to say that the design concept could not be used in a similar application.
