Pump-out Plug

What is it ?

The Red Spider series of Pump-out Plugs can be either deployed as tubing mounted devices intended to blank-off the end of the tubing during running or intervention deployed on the bottom of a retrievable bridge plug or similar.

The plug is intended for short term use and allows equalisation to take place by increasing the differential across the device from above. This increase in differential will, at a predetermined value, shear the internal shear ring causing the internal sealing poppet to be moved allowing equalisation. In some designs the poppet is retained within the tool and in others, where full bore access maybe require, it is discharged into the well bore.

Typically the device will have a metal to metal seal from below.

When would I use it ?

The Pump-out Plug can be used in various different applications as a means of pressure equalisation:

• On retrievable bridge plugs, plug assemblies or similar
• On the tail pipe of completions
• On velocity strings as a dual barrier for well control during deployment
