Pinned Melon Equalising Assembly

What is it ?

The Red Spider Pinned Melon Equalising Assembly is a device run in conjunction with other plugging/flow control devices and is used to allow mechanical equalisation of the well prior to retrieval from the well bore.

The device is run closed and is opened by mechanically shearing an integral shear ring. To operate or shear out the device, an equalising prong is used to reach into the body and make contact with the equalising sleeve. Downward jarring will then shear the shear ring and allow the equalising sleeve to be pushed downward exposing the large equalising ports, and thus allowing the well to pressure equalise from below to above.

When would I use it ?

The Pinned Melon Equalising Assembly would be typically be deployed in the following applications:

• As a primary means of equalisation below a plug assembly or retrievable packer
• As a secondary or back up means of equalisation above devices such as the Hydraulic or Electronic RED
• Where a reliable equalisation device is required in situations where debris is expected
