Fluid Support Device
Our Technology...
What is it ?
The Red Spider Fluid Support Device (FSD) is designed to prevent fluid loss to the formation in Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) or plunger pump completions when shut in. If required, the FSD can be installed above the ESP to prevent sand fallback entering the upper section of the ESP when the pumps are shut down. It can also be installed below the ESP in completions which require or would benefit from an "under-balanced for life" philosophy, hence protecting the reservoir from harmful overbalance during completion and subsequent work-over operations.
The device is typically deployed on a carrier device such as a retrievable packer or wireline lock, enabling it to be positioned at any point in the well bore and opens remotely to allow production to commence with a positive pressure from below.
When would I use it ?
The Fluid Support Device can be successfully deployed in a number of differing applications:
- Below an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) to maintain the column of fluid within the tubing hence providing a known environment for the pump during start up.
- Huff and Puff applications where the intention is to inject fluids into the upper formation and the switch over to production from the lower formation. In this situation this device will be used in combination with the Tubing Mounted Injection Valve
- Above an ESP to maintain the column of fluid within the tubing and or prevent debris fall out onto the pump
- Below a sump packer prior to deploying the upper completion and ESP's
- Providing a means of preventing fluid loss to the formation in conventional wells
- Cost effective method of maintaining an "under-balanced for life" philosophy.
